RECIPIENT OF THE 2018 CHAMPION OF PREVENTION AWARD
Firefighter Mike Dunn was a recipient of the 2018 Champion of Prevention Award by Drug Free Manatee during the 16th annual red ribbon breakfast on october 10, 2018. firefighter Dunn was recognized for his extraordinary impact in preventing and reducing substance abuse in our community. red ribbon is the oldest prevention campaign in the country. It serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to make drug prevention a priority. drug free manatee celebrates national red ribbon campaign by hosting an annual breakfast honoring champions of prevention. firefighter mike dunn was honored for his creation of the your life matters Project which he started in 2015 by creating cards with treatment centers across the county. these cards are then given to people when they wake from an overdose. his project has expanded into a website with inspirational video’s and community speaking
FIREFIGHTERS RECOGNIZED AT SEPTEMBER 27, 2018 BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS MEETING
Three Firefighters were recognized at the recent commissioners meeting. firefighter josh clemen and firefighter devin dirmeyer were promoted to second class firefighter and firefighter cody gregory was promoted to third class firefighter. congratulations on a job well done!

CEDAR HAMMOCK FIRE RESCUE AND MANATEE COUNTY FIRST RESPONDERS HELP MAKE BOY’S BIRTHDAY SPECIAL
Jamie Sprout continues to defeat the odds. He has a mitochondrial disorder and was supposed to be on a ventilator by age 10. he celebrated his 12th birthday with the help of the firefighters on engine 222 which included firefighter a.j. dudley, firefighter jon kropp, firefighter peter setefano, firefighter nick lynch and inspector marc massella. jamie loves first responders and his birthday theme this year was first responders. in attendance with cedar hammock fire rescue, were 15 manatee county sheriff deputies and the florida highway patrol.

Congratulations go out to Firefighter Zach Kertz on his promotion to Second Class Firefighter. Firefighter Kertz was recognized at the Board of Commissioners meeting in May for this outstanding achievement, his hard work, and dedication.
The Preferred Governmental Insurance Trust Reimbursement is provided to our district to assist with the purchase of safety related items. The funds received from this program were used to assist in the purchase of seven sets of bunker gear. This program helps to ensure that our crews are provided essential personal protective equipment. It is a pleasure to work with the Preferred Government Insurance Trust.
AWARDS, RECOGNITION, AND HONORING COMMISSIONER TOM FLYNN
Board of Commissioners Meeting April 19, 2018
Firefighter Aron Kaloostian was honored by the Sons of Revolution at the Board of Commissioners Meeting on April 19, 2018. Tim Milligan a member of the Sons of Revolution presented Firefighter Kaloostian with their Fire Safety Commendation Medal.
Firefighter Kaloostian also received an award from the VFW Post #10141. The VFW honored Firefigher Kaloostian for firefighter of the year and presented him with a certificate and gift.
Deputy Chief Mike DeChelbor, Captain ryan French, Lt. Matt Jones, Firefighter Randall Fowler, Firefighter Nick Lynch, Firefighter James Taylor, and Firefighter Bobby Wadsworth were each presented with a NOW Award (Notable Outstanding Work). They were nominated by Firefighter Mike dunn for the outstanding job and committment these individuals had on the engine spec committee for the design of our new fire engine.
Lt. Matt Jones, Firefighter Randall Fowler, and Firefighter Aron Kaloostian were presented Hurricane Campaign Awards from the Manatee County Fire chiefs Assocation.
Chief Jeff Hoyle Presented to commissioner tom flynn’s family, a placque bearing his badge and name plate. Commissioner Flynn passed away on Feb. 18, 2018. Mrs. Gayle flynn and her son Shawn Flynn spoke of the dedication and love Commissioner flynn had for cedar hammock Fire Rescue.

On a night of celebration and promise, it’s the worst thing that can happen….students drink alcohol at the prom, and get in their cars and possibly cause an accident. Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue, Manatee County EMS, manatee county sheriff’s department and students from lake erie college of osteopathic medicine worked together to demonstrate the dangers of drinking and driving, in front of large group of students at bayshore high school. The re-enactment showed the aftermath of a drunken driving accident to promote awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving .
First Responder’s Night
The Bradenton Marauders hosted a first responder’s night at their April 20, 2018 game against the Fort Myers Miracle. The event featured First Responder Vehicles, a themed Jersey Auction and the Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue Safety Bounce House.

A yellow cap left on during the manufacturing process can cover one of the two smoke sensors and compromise the smoke alarm’s ability to detect smoke, posing a risk of consumers not being alerted to a fire in their home.

REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
This is a request to submit proposals for Insurance Benefits Broker. A complete description of the coverage being requested will be available at the Cedar Hammock Fire Control District’s (“District”) business office, located at Cedar Hammock Fire Department – Station #1, 5200 26th Street West, Bradenton, Florida 34207, Monday through Thursday, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., and on the District’s website at: www.chfr.org.
Proposals must be submitted by mail or hand-delivery to the District’s business office by November 13, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. and shall be delivered in a sealed envelope with the words “GROUP INSURANCE BENEFITS PROVIDER PROPOSAL” clearly marked on the front. On November 13, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. the bids will be publicly opened at the District’s business office. On November 14, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. and, if required, November 15, 2018, at 9:00 a.m., a Selection Committee will convene a publicly noticed meeting, held at the District’s business office, for purposes of ranking and making a recommendation to the Cedar Hammock Fire Control District’s Board of Fire Commissioners (“Fire Commission”). The Selection Committee’s recommendation will be presented to the Fire Commission for formal action at a regularly scheduled public meeting, held at Cedar Hammock Fire Department – Station #1, 5200 26th Street West, Bradenton, Florida 34207, on Wednesday, November 15, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. The Fire Commission reserves the right to reject any or all proposals, as well as the right to reject any portion of any proposals.

Architectural and Engineering Services
The Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue District seeks Statements of Qualifications from firms for architectural and engineering services to develop construction drawings for a fire training tower, to include relocation of gas piping mock-up, demolition of existing wooden tower, and replacement of decking, railing support, and stairs over current confined space mock-up.
